Before, I thought the chapter was mostly going to discuss how religion started. Now, I think with any of the events that happen and decisions people choose to make, religion can always be a part of that. Additionally, culture is important when it comes to religion as well. Since culture deals with pretty much everything when it comes to shaping someone’s beliefs, knowledge, and customs, just to name a few. In the chapter, it includes that most people may think of religious people as those who attend church every Sunday, but that isn’t always the case.

There are people who go to church, but they might not actually believe in the things they hear during mass or the things regarding that religion. I know there are people or families that are religious but don’t always attend church, so I think it depends on the person. On the topic of culture and religion, I would definitely have to agree that they have an effect on one another. Without either of those, it would be difficult to understand those who believe in different things than we do. I think it is really fascinating that there are different types of one religion depending on which part of the world someone is from.

It is interesting because most people would think of one religion as just that version, but it also has to do with where it is practiced in the world. Besides having different cultures and religions, there are also different personalities. Someone’s personality is one thing that truly sets you apart from someone else, so I think this is really important as well. For instance, someone’s culture and religion could affect their personality because of the practices and beliefs they grew up being exposed to. Although there are also times where two people could be a part of the same culture and/or religion, yet their personalities are completely different. Therefore, I think culture and religion don’t fully define someone’s personality, but it is still something that can help shape that their perspective.

With how diverse cultures and religions are, we have to be able to understand and accept each others’ differences. Just like how certain countries have sports that they love most or are most popular in their culture. My prior knowledge lined up to today’s topic in a way since it discussed what goes along with culture and went into detail about it. In the end, it is crucial to remember that there is no set definition when it comes to religion. It is too diverse and complicated because it goes along with so much more than just a religion that’s being practiced.
